Day Tours - Table Mountain, Cape Town
Cape Town Table Mountain and the natural setting of the Mother City of South Africa are really a stunning sight when flying into Cape Town.
Table Mountain so named for its flat top, rose from the ocean some 250 million years ago. The mountain is bordered by Devil’s Peak to the east, and Lion’s Head and Signal Hill to the west. The narrow table is 3km long and 1,086m high, the summit is flat, and the dense white mist that often covers it is called the "tablecloth." Once on top viewers are presented with an awe-inspiring panorama stretching from the city, Table Bay to False Bay around the mountain to Hout Bay and Kommetjie. Best views from the ground would be from Table Bay, from where you can get some idea of the relative size of the mountain, creating a classic picture postcard.
Taking up the Cable Car is a funny thing, even if you are afraid of hights like me. So be aware that the modern Swiss made cabin has got a revolving floor so everybody can enjoy the views from all angles. The trip takes roughly 5-10 min to reach the top station. The view however is so stunning you forget your anxiety and admire the splendid views over the Table Bay. You will enjoy a magnificent view of the Table Mountain range rising after crossing the Cape Flats and its gorgeous setting so close to the Atlantic Ocean.
Cape Town Table Mountain however is not only attracting the tourists it is also one of the favorite with the locals. Many Capetonians go up the mountain to celebrate Birthdays or anniversaries on top of the mountain or just enjoy the views over the city on a clear and wind free day off work.
On a clear day you will see up to 100km in distance. The Helderberg Mountain Range near Stellenbosch is usually clearly visible as is - like in my picture - Robben Island, which is 21km away. In clear weather you can also see Dassen Island as far as 55km from the Table Bay too.
